Official Format

Spring 7v7 rules

The complete game format for families, players, and coaches — including downs, timing, scoring, penalties, tournament play, and overtime.

Field, teams & possession

  • Seven defenders face six eligible offensive players; a center is required to snap the ball.
  • Each possession starts at the 40-yard line and moves toward the end zone.
  • First downs are earned at the 25-yard line and the 10-yard line.
  • The offense has three downs to reach each first-down line.
  • There are no running plays. A pass completed at or behind the line of scrimmage must gain positive yardage or the play is scored as a sack.

Sacks & change of possession

  • If the quarterback holds the ball for 4.01 seconds or longer, the play is a sack.
  • During the final minute, the game clock stops after a sack.
  • Possession changes after a conversion attempt, a failure to earn the required first down, or an interception.
  • All players must follow the two-hand-touch, non-contact format.
