Athlete safety first

Coaching Requirements

Every Head Coach, Assistant Coach, and Co-Coach must complete the required training, screening, and approval steps before leading or supervising Jr Pacers athletes.

Anyone who leads, instructs, or supervises athletes must be at least 18 years old, complete required safety education, pass the Jr Pacers background-check process, and receive approval before participating as a coach.

Strictly administrative helpers—such as scorekeepers, snack coordinators, or logistics volunteers—may fall under the more limited Team Aide role when they do not coach or supervise athletes.

Required steps for all coaches

1. Age and registration

Coaches must be 18 or older and complete the correct volunteer registration for the season.

2. Lindsay’s Law

Complete the required sudden cardiac arrest education, including the video and handout provided through volunteer registration.

3. Concussion training

Complete either NFHS “Concussion in Sports” or CDC “HEADS UP to Youth Sports” training. The certificate is valid for three years and may not expire during the season.

4. Background check

Complete the screening request sent by the Jr Pacers-approved vendor after the other requirements are received.

Concussion certificate details

  • Download the full-size completion certificate—not the wallet card.
  • Confirm the certificate remains valid for the entire season.
  • Email the certificate to chris@jrpacersfootball.com unless your registration instructions provide another upload method.

Background-check process

Jr Pacers initiates and pays for the approved background check. The vendor’s email link is time-sensitive and is generally active for 72 hours, so complete it promptly.

Outside reports are not accepted

For consistent screening, Jr Pacers cannot accept a background check completed through another organization or provider. Results are handled confidentially and shared only with people responsible for eligibility and safety decisions.

Approval and supervision

At least one approved, rostered coach must be present at every practice and game. A substitute who will lead, instruct, or supervise athletes must also be screened and approved.

Team rosters, schedules, uniforms, and equipment are released as the program confirms that requirements are complete. Directors and coordinators verify coach approval before the season begins.
